The Store phase is where someone retains or archives a document for future use. The document could be electronic or paper. Storing a document may mean retaining it in a file cabinet or on microfiche. This may not be the most cost effective or safest way to store documents, but many organisations do it. Putting a document into a document or content management system enables users to access it from a central location and it is more cost effective than storing the document in a filing cabinet. The system also features an audit trail of document access, which is critical in many organisations today as they try to comply with government regulations.
